The Janesville Gazette is a family-owned newspaper. The Janesville Gazette was started in 1845 and was purchased by Howard F. Bliss in 1883. Four generations passed and the current owner, president and publisher of the is Sidney H. “Skip” Bliss. The Janesville Gazette is Wisconsin’s oldest newspaper published by its original name.
Southern Wisconsin Broadcasting, LLC is the licensee of WCLO-AM and WJVL-FM, Janesville, Wisconsin. 1230 WCLO-AM, established August 30, 1930. 99.9 WJVL-FM, established October 10, 1947.
Bliss acquired radio stations in West Bend in 1970. 1470 AM (WBKV), and 92.5 FM (WBWI).
Bliss acquired the Marinette (WI) Eagle-Star in 1980 and the Menominee (MI) Herald-Leader in 1982. The two merged in 1995 to create the EagleHerald.
Bliss in 1988 acquired the Monroe Times. There is also a free distribution shopper called the “Stateline Buyer’s Guide”. In 2003, Freeport Shopping News and Monroe Shopping News were also acquired.
Racine Broadcasting, LLC was purchased by Bliss on September 1, 1997. WRJN-AM broadcasts on 1400 AM. WEZY-FM broadcasts on 92.1 FM.
Community Shoppers Inc. was purchased by Bliss Communications Inc. in June 2008. There are three community-based newspapers as part of the CSI group, The Walworth County Advertiser-Shopper, Stateline News and Janesville Messenger.
