Colin Campbell’s Summary
Colin is a follower rather than a leader. It is unlikely he could achieve a better work life balance than his current position, without winnning the lottery. Until this stage in his life passes, this is good.
He has a wide and varied career, including the timber, retail, agriculture, customer service, sports administration, construction and infrastructure, hospitality, teaching and catering industries and most recently in environmental consulting.
After leaving university with a virtually worthless sociology degree in the midst of the Thatcher recession he accepted a free ticket to America from his future wife, who conveniently had a relative, living in Aspen. After getting skied out, Colin moved back east, only to follow his wife to the Philippines where he was an English teacher. Realising that this was not for him, he returned to the US, where he retrained as a Civil Engineer and went to work for a large international consulting firm, assessing contaminated military sites. With a break for a year in Nepal, where he was an independenet energy and environmental consultant, he lucked into a position in Singapore, developing new markets for local and multinationl clients throughout Asia Pacific for the same firm.
After some personal changes and a year in America, he moved to Adelaide with his Australian family. After a period of domestic duties and some part time work, he lucked into his current position by sitting next to one of his current colleagues at a party for one of my wifes colleagues. You have to live in Adelaide to understand that one.
He is currently gainfully employed servicing clients in the South Australian contaminated land market. He is considered useful enough to stay on in a difficult market place. Most of his job is spent identifying business opportunities, managing projects and delivering good outcomes for clients and his company. He has excellent client management skills and in the right environment can be very effective.
