2008 Young Innovator Award Finalist, research and development and implementation of medical IT systems and solutions for the advancement of technology in health care
Founder of Health Informatics startup group focusing on developing innovative solutions and technology for the healthcare industry. Core focus on hospital and improving patient outcomes through innovative use of technology. Directly involved in RnD designing and architecting an award winning decision support system called ACAFE piloted in 3 major ED hospitals in Australia. Developed automated discharge summary results system and emergency based real time monitor for health statistics and health trends.
Demonstrated published work:
Use of ACAFE was associated with significantly higher rates of documentation of asthma severity, as well as other clinically important variables, such as asthma precipitants, intensive care admission history and smoking history. ACAFE was also associated with significantly higher rate of asthma discharge plan documentation. Emergency Medicine Australasia Volume 21 31–37 2009
Dynamic interoperable clinical platform which enabled streamlining and consolidation of ED documentation and facilitated the use of clinical pathways. This was coupled with real time quality control features that allowed the monitoring of trends and variations in clinical practice. Emergency Medicine Australasia. Volume 20 Issue 1 2008
Full clinical trials of the decision support system ACAFE. Of the eight outcomes measured, ACAFE achieved significant improvement in five of them. The most impressive were in the documentation of previous ICU admissions, which jumped from 14% to 90%, severity grading which leapt from 18% to 98%, for asthma action plan, where the proportion of patients who left ED with a plan jumped from 16% to 76%. International Conference on Emergency Medicine, San Francisco, 2008
