Gary Barber’s Summary
Gary is a independent user experience designer and web architect, with a flare for visual design, having gained a wealth of experience in the internet industry since 1995.
He has designed and developed moderate to large scale websites and intranets. Working within government, education, energy sector, not-for-profits, and medium to small business.
This has involved work from user research, content mapping, interface and navigation design, user testing, wireframing, usability reviews; all within small to large teams.
Gary also has specific design skills in interface development using graphical design tools such as Photoshop and rendering pages in CSS / HTML to Javascript development using various frameworks.
His design and development approaches are focusing on aglie lifecycles, for a more effective return on investment.
Gary has an enthusiasm for the use of industry best practice (“web standards”), holistic usability and accessibility with the application of user and business centred design methodology within all of his projects.
He has a very good understanding of front end and back end development processes, coming from his previous career roles in server side development (php, ColdFusion). This allows him to understand and discuss issues with all members of a developmental team all gained over his 20 years in the IT industry.
He is well know to be happiest solving problems and researching solutions with the latest online technologies involving the core elements of interactive design.
Gary is a member of the Information Architecture Institute and Usability Professionals Association. He is an active organiser and contributor to the BarCamp movement.
He has a deep belief in mentoring people, any spare time is professionally given back to the community in the past as a committee member of the Australian Web Industry Association and a moderate amount of public speaking.
