Johan Farid Khairuddin’s Summary

As the region's youngest and most experienced strategic youth business & media development experts, I traveled the world for Asia's leading satellite broadcasting company (Astro plc) as their Head of Regional Youth Projects. Focused on CSR, my team and I worked at enhancing business brand positioning & profitability through the group's youth-targeted cross-media platforms, projects & business units.

The highlights of my tenure include speaking on Youth & ICTs at the UN Global Youth Forum in Switzerland (Sept 07), the UN Meets Web 2.0 Conference in New York (March 08), the European Alternative Channel TV Forum in Barcelona (April 08), the World Congress for ICT (May 08) in Kuala Lumpur, the 1st World Radio Broadcasters Meeting (June 08) in Istabul, Turkey, the UN Global Youth Forum in Armenia (Oct 08), the 2nd Annual Middle East Corporate Social Responsibility Forum in Dubai (Nov 08) and most recently the Annual General Meeting for the Committee for ASEAN Youth Cooperation in Manila, Philippines (Dec 08).

For my work on youths in Asia, The United Nations awarded me an appointment as an e-Leader for the Asia Pacific region in March 2008. I also then sat on the UN Global Alliance for ICT Development Strategic Council until the end of my tenure. I have also been awarded by the Committee for ASEAN Youth Cooperation to be the e-Ambassador to Malaysia.

As a veteran Radio DJ & TV Personality with more than 12 years experience in the music, youth, entertainment and broadcasting industries; my work in media including my role in music as a singer, songwriter & producer have and will continue to grant me international experience, networks & exposure globally.

At the end of December 2008, I began a new chapter in my life -- to fly airplanes, now as a profession.

Being a licensed Malaysian Private Pilot since 2005, I recently earned my Australian Commercial Pilot's License and am now pursuing my Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating on Australia's Gold Coast.

    June 2005June 2006 (1 year 1 month)

Worked together part-time with the company CEO to assist in "jump starting" his latest group business subsidiary “Broadway Digital Media”. The company then, merely had plans to expand the group’s revenue channels through aggregating its original content to the relatively new (at that time) communication platforms within the market place - IPTV, 3G, VOD etc.

I was engaged to chart an action plan for the group, negotiate the deals between new affiliates and other 3rd party content providers, consult actual platform development, develop a working business plan which included identifying key staff to then manage the operation post my part-time consultancy/contract tenure.

The portal has now successfully launched as www.bintang.tv

(Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; Broadcast Media industry)

Co-founded the Xfresh Teen Community. Starting online, Xfresh's CRM database of 100% teens grew into millions and the project then expanded to include teen street teams, teen magazines, teen mobile applications and eventually teen TV! The Xfresh Teen Community then became the Xfresh Group when it became a multi-million dollar business with 4WDs, Busses, a Helicopter and now its very own radio station - XFRESH FM.

    * Locally, Xfresh won “Most Creative Website / Portal” award honors at the 2001 Jaring MY Awards. Internationally, Xfresh was nominated for the “GKP Youth Award 2003 – Category: Media”. The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) is a worldwide network committed to harnessing the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable and equitable development.

    * I was then chosen to represent Xfresh and Malaysia to speak at the 3rd World Congress for Youth in Vancouver, Canada on “Developing Youth Networks / Communities in South East Asia”.

The Intranet platform provided various tools to assist the customer support team in managing their helpdesk & call center cases, while the Internet platform provided the customer/subscriber with applications (ie. FAQ, Freeware, OS updates etc) which would help minimize and/or resolve their ISP connectivity issues.

    * My team and I also developed and marketed various new interactive products and strategies (ie. Online Gaming Networks, Community Portals etc). Most of them are still active and profitable on www.tm.net.my
