Laurel has 20 years experience in social networks online and 10 years in virtual worlds and online games. She has been teaching the first Australian public social media courses since 2005 at University of Sydney and has also lectured on social media as part of a Masters of Convergent Media at the University of Western Sydney, as well as occasional public workshops for organisations such as PRIA, MEAA, ADMA, AIIA, and CAA. Laurel still teaches "Web 2:0 Facebook blogs and Marketing" and "How to Blog" courses amongst others at the Uni of Sydney and elsewhere.
Earlier this year, Laurel gave a keynote and week long workshops to Arabic women in Saudi Arabia (Social Media and the Woman's Voice, Effat University Jeddah on invitation by Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC) and royal house of Saud). Laurel also provides strategic sessions to senior decision makers on industry wide social network impact, including Channel Ten Australian Idol, Macquarie Leisure Dreamworld and Sony Electronics. Laurel develops and teaches Insights Masterclasses for Australian Film Television and Radio School on innovation and cross media and in her spare time, plays World of Warcraft (she lectures on WoW as a team building tool) and Second Life.
