While at eSec (A managed security services provider), we did a lot of work on developing a smooth, standards based operations process, systems and staff to deliver high quality outcomes to our managed service clients. In 2000, the tech bubble hit us (did we really spend that much on furniture?). So freed, I decided that the managed services idea was too good - it worked for our clients. So I started ITsManaged. There was one thing I was really clear on, MS could easily be turned into a chain for our clients, so I was determined not to do that. So first, we created a managed service around a low cost platform - Linux - heck, most businesses don't care what the server window looks like, just so long as it works. Linux we knew was very robust, secure and above all reliable. It's the last part 'reliable' which helps us reduce the cost of MS. Less troubleshooting, repair & recovery means less costs. The second was how we constructed our contract with our clients. We wanted to ensure that clients got the full benefit of the MS model, so we reduced or removed long contract terms - our clients are free to go at short notice, so that forces us to perform exceptionally all the time!
Now almost 10 years later of delivering incredible value, we are about to take the next major step. But that will have to wait till we release the details! Suffice to say it will reduce the cost of MS further and extend MS to the desktop (yes, Windows desktops!).
