I have worked in Internet related roles for over 10 years (public and private sectors). I see myself as a catalyst bringing people and technology together in useful and relevant ways.
I am an enthusiastic adopter of new technologies and keep up to date with what's out there and explore new tools and technologies to see how they might be used within various contexts - in particular for business, marketing and education.
Over the last year or so I've been re-exploring Second Life (first looked in 2005) and now Open Sims - these tools are now being adopted by a number of businesses and educational institutions - new developments such as the telporting of an avatar to one virtual world to another have huge implications for future applications.
In terms of my technical skills I am a coder not a programmer - I can happily work with or modify existing code as part of graphic implementations (skinning a site/system). I have worked directly with data in databases, carrying out basic queries and administrative tasks and have managed various websites and online systems.
In past roles, a major part of my work was providing advice and guidance to clients regarding the set up and management of sites - governance, site accessibility and usability (advisory/ hands on coding) and to advise clients how different tools/systems might be used to help them achieve their goals. I've also dabbled with search engine optimisation and provided practical advice to clients on how they might improve their visibility in search engines - and/or improve ranking.
Within all of my roles I have a strong client based focus and am able to determine client needs and make recommendations based on my own knowledge and experience as well as that of my extensive network. I approach my work with good humor and a positive attitude - an easy thing to do when you're lucky enough to work in an area that is fun and that you love.
