I am currently performing postdoctoral research in the lab of Peter Tontonoz at UCLA in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine studying lipid metabolism in mammalian cells. Disregulation of lipid metabolism can have serious deleterious effects in humans, including cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes. The pathways controlling metabolism of cholesterol and other lipids consist of complex signaling networks, including nuclear receptors such as the liver X receptors (LXRs). Our group is interested in how LXRs and their downstream targets regulate lipid metabolism and inflammation.
I have previous postdoctoral experience at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the lab of Doris Germain, investigating the role of Skp2B, a component of the SCF ubiqiutin ligase complex, in breast and prostate cancer. Prior to that, I worked in the lab of Carol Prives at Columbia university where I received my PhD studying the regulation and nucleotide binding of Mdm2 and MdmX, primary negative regulators of the p53 tumor suppressor.
I have experience using a variety of cell biology, animal model, and biochemical approaches. I have published several peer-reviewed scientific articles and gained experience working with a diverse group of scientists and presenting my findings to diverse audiences. My interests include ubiquitination and protein processing, cancer biology, lipid metabolism, science education, and food science.
